The WA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) is currently taking appointments at its student teaching physiotherapy clinic in Geraldton.
WACRH welcomes health science university students on practical placements into rural areas. As part of some placements students work in supervised teaching clinics to provide services to the community.
In the physiotherapy clinic students can see clients with wide a range of conditions including musculoskeletal issues, back and neck pain, injuries and mobility difficulties.
The physiotherapy clinic is available to any adults, no doctor’s referral is needed and there is no cost for attending.
Final year physiotherapy students Anita and Eleanor from the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle will be commencing their five week rural placement with WACRH. They are looking forward to working with Geraldton residents in the clinic alongside WACRH supervising physiotherapist, Brian Poller.
WACRH also offers clinics through their Kickstart program for people with chronic health conditions and communication clinics.
‘Student teaching clinics provide great opportunities for our students to learn about working in rural areas as well as offering the community a service,’ said WACRH’s Director Professor Sandra Thompson.
‘Clients who attend our clinics have mentioned while they value the physiotherapy care, they also appreciate the opportunity to help support the learning of the next generation of rural health professionals.’
Physiotherapy clinic is held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at WACRH at 167 Fitzgerald Street in Geraldton, next door to Central Regional TAFE.
