WA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) has been working to engage men in conversations about family violence through the Men Against Violence program and is now encouraging men to share their thoughts through an anonymous community survey.

WACRH and the University of Western Australia have received funding from Healthway to support community efforts towards prevention of family violence in Geraldton.

The Local Community Attitudes and Exposure to Violence Survey aims to get as many people as possible who live in the City of Greater Geraldton and are aged over 15 to complete the digital survey which can be accessed online here www.wacrh.uwa.edu.au/survey

People don’t need to have been exposed to violence to complete the survey.

“We are really keen to hear from men in Geraldton with this survey”, Men Against Violence Research Assistant Luke Ringin said.

“Men often feel like they aren’t invited to be involved in conversations about family violence as it is often seen as a ‘women’s issue’ and this is what we are trying to change. Inviting men to share their thoughts and views is an extremely important part of understanding community attitudes and experiences family violence.”

“We invite all men who are over the age of 15 and live in the City of Greater Geraldton to get involved in this survey and to encourage participation we have $2000 worth of cash prizes to give away to those who complete the survey.”

The survey takes about 10 – 15 minutes to complete and contact details for the prize draw will not be linked to responses.
